One thing we have to address is the emotions and intellect of Americans.. those for democracy and those against it...
I am just back from a 40 day trip where I visited 11+ National Parks and several other National Monuments and public lands (also places in DC, including Arlington.. the WW II in New Orleans... and more)
I never asked the Park people directly about the insanity.. or how they felt about the gutless gutting of federal programs...but they gave subtle insight in other answers "well you know we are dealing with a lot"
I noticed in DC it was a melting pot of nationalities (of the kind the racist don't like).. It wasn’t just nationalities, but a mixing of those. The kind of thing that if they were to do their DNA test, Ancestry would show them a map of the world. If any place is a poster of DEI that is hard working and running things… it is DC.
Specifically in Arlington Cemetery - > the grounds were being kept by private companies and most of the workers conversed not in English.. I suspect but don't know - - > the landscape companies were used because they COULD hire undocumented workers..
{{small note to remind everyone (again) that pos_tfnKK and TAC0trmPED0 are racist = they want to make Greenland or Canada the 51 state.. those white countries, meanwhile the territories of DC and Puerto Rico (not white places) are not mentioned. If you look at all those who have been fired because they were DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) hires. There is never an example how a DEI hire is unqualified, so yes racist.*
Think about any other group... If the US government lost a suit because they weren’t hiring Jewish people and in the last year, increased the hiring of qualified Jews... TAC0trmPED0 could just say they were DEI hires.. but they would be bigots.}}
But back to the main thought:
ª The TAC0trmPED0 actions (probably on purpose) are intended to destroy the morale of the Government worker.. to take away their dignity.. and those left - - > to over-work them into leaving.
ª Many of the actions are to hamstring agencies and departments.. If you cut the park services (The National Parks: America's Best Idea) you destroy any chance of them to succeed. Once they fail.. TAC0trmPED0 can say they are a failure and start selling them off... Much the same of what dejoy did with the US postal system.
One of the most important things you can say about US park rangers: "It's not just a job." They aren’t pay well, it is hard to get a job..(the majority of rangers are seasonal, making $15 an hour (or as one seasonal ranger told me - “less than the employees at the Subway Shop outside the park! ”) and in the end the people who are working for the park service, do so because they love the job, they love the mission.... they love America.
Several people I talked to volunteered for years in various capacities to get the job.. In the Grand Canyon there was a seasonal ranger (SEASONAL) who was a former hair dresser who volunteered for several years until she got a temporary job. I have met others who were over-educated (like people who have EMT certification so they could get a job and work at the information desk). Know that these seasonal jobs means when they aren’t working for the Park Service, they scramble for other low paying jobs.. like ski lift operators or they make the big bucks as a cashier at Aldi.
And to show just how f-ed up DOGE is and was.. the National Park Service (NPS) is one of the most efficient and top revenue generator in government.. yet they were cut (willy nilly)
National Parks Contributed Record High $55.6 Billion to U.S. economy, Supported 415,000 Jobs in 2023 ** But I would contend you don’t just judge an agency by how much money they generate, but also by value their service. The Veterans Administration does not generate revenue, but few people would think they should be cut.

Even if they was a lot of waste in the NPS - - > making $55.6 Billion dollars at a cost of $3.6 Billion is worth it. For the magAholes, that is a 15x profit.
If you wanted to be more efficient with the park service and usage, the government would be better to get less people at the Great Smokey Mountains and more to Wupatki National Monument.... or other lessor visited parks. But it isn’t about being efficient.
Yet I would contend they are not making ENOUGH money in other areas. Several places I camped there were cattle grazing... and they also lease to the Fossil Fuel Industry... and (I don’t have numbers) because so many people are doing that, clearly it is advantage to the lessee. Imagine if they doubled or 5x that cost. There would be more profits and
more efficient.

But it was never about being efficient or even saving money. Here is an example, from one the federal campgrounds I was staying at.... The camp host kindly allowed me to change camp sites... but to do so, she had to pick up the phone and call another office. In the past, this would have been done in that office, on a computer connected to the reservation service.
Instead she called another office... and while we waited, a ranger at that other office got on his/her computer and made the change (two people to do one job, while I waited).
Why? because our new administration thought having a computer in that campground office was a waste, so they took it out. The computer was paid for and the hosts have no clue what they did with a used computer... but now all changes required them to call another office. It didn’t save money and it in fact made the office less efficient.
And (yes it is never ending with the f-ed up TAC0trmPED0 administration)...
One of the jobs for the (unpaid) camp hosts is to make rounds of the campground: making sure people are in the right campsite; putting up registration tags at the sites for incoming campers (and taking down the old tags); checking to see if generators are not on during quite hours; checking for unattended fires; and general solving problems that exist. They do this trip around the campground from 3-8 times a day.. and they usually have a golf cart they ride around in.
Usually. The same dictate of the TAC0trmPED0 administration that removed the computer, also took the golf cart. Like the computer equipment that was already owned by the NPS was taken. No reason given... but the belief was (to put it in common terms) just to be dicks.
By the way: The U.S. National Park Service relies heavily on volunteers, including campground hosts, according to the National Park Service. While it's difficult to pinpoint an exact number of campground hosts, the National Park Service states that nearly 300,000 volunteers contribute over 6.5 million hours annually. Campground hosts, who reside in park campgrounds, are a significant part of this volunteer effort, providing basic operational services and information to the public. ****
Luckily someone in the community donated to/provided the camp hosts with another golf cart. In fact often local and state governments are the ones who are picking up where the Federal Government has cut. In essence making something cheaper at the federal level, but more expensive at the state and local.
Let’s do the math (you know the stuff doge never did). If you haven’t figured this out yet - - > that equals NO savings for tax payers. Taking the lint out of one pocket and putting it in another.. saves no one money.

I am going to make an assumption: you are getting paid too much; you are wasting time; and on top of that you could pay more taxes. Do you think you are making too much money? Do you think you are wasting too much time? I mean really, how much could we cut your income? Oh wait, that was a mistake, why am I asking you... I am going to decide for you. I am also just going to randomly make decisions and not worry about if it make sense.

I am helping you because with less income you couldn’t afford all that vacation... though since you are really working more.. that salary cut is effectively 12%.. don’t worry about the math, I’m not.

I am going to ask you to every week write down five things you achieved. ***** and to show you are a loyal American you must write an essay of why I am the best boss and doing right by you ***** (this is to be on your own time.. don’t waste more money and time). If you don’t, you are fired... and if I notice you doing this wrong...I will be expecting you to work two hours more a day to get everything done.
